PetTalk CAREFULL WITH ADVICE Liz Alexander huge huge@cyberhug.co.uk
I agree with penelope, I asked you to back up your comments re bark collars. I am sure you are very well qualified, but it would be interesting to know, and if you would then enlarge on subjects you comment on. I find this a great site, we all help each other, often have strong and conflicting views (docking- check chains)but ultimately if anyone has a real problem there is help and support. I know I offer quite a lot of advice, but mine is only as an experienced layman. I had a country upbringing surrounded by farm animals, Scottish terriers Yorkies, working Spaniels and Labs. My son learned to walk with a vicious Yorkie hanging from his nappy. I was one of the first Weimaraner owners in the UK and lived for twelve idyllic years\in a leased house in the lovely grounds of Millbrook RSPCA Animal Centre Chobham Surrey. although not connected with them, I inevitably got involved, and apart from my Weimaraners (5 over the years) I took in dogs in need of home assessment ie. cat/child/car/house friendly. We also gave permanent homes to some of those deemed unhomeable, and had in the house for periods over the years 2 German Shepherds, a Bull Mastiff, bull dog greyhound,GSP, Dane, plus endless hand reared puppies, goats, swans a donkey and retired pit pony. From puppy hood until death I have had Weimaraners, one Rottweiler, a Dandy Dinmont (demon on legs) Yorkie, and a Dobermann. It has not all been plain sailing, I have had some funnies - although not at the time - £500 and passport eaten by Weimaraner, Friends Wedding cake half eaten (day of wedding) by Weimaraner. Entire interior of car removed by Weimaraner and repeated some years later by another!. Craitors dug in garden by .... Weimaraners. Some horribles, neighbours cat killed in front of them by fostered Weimaraner. My mothers Yorkie killed in our sitting room by my Rottweiller (my fault)Several nips bite and big lumps removed from postman, dustman and us via disturbed lodgers, a serious attack via a disturbed Bortzoi. A broken leg via a collision with a GS, sons GSE Certificates lost via tug of war between Bull mastiff and postman. House flooded via Dandy Dinmont eating sneaking hole into washing machine hose pipe. Massive fights, one, by the time we separated them constituting eighty two stitches between them and following that they lived together for ten years! I originally did my dog training with a gun/working dog group run by the head of the Surrey police dog school and have in more recent years have done three courses with Dr Roger Mungford. I adopted a Dobermann 4 years ago who sadly died of leukemia 2yrs later, by then I was besotted by the breed and was lucky enough to get a puppy who was half brother to him, he is now 2yrs and I am about to get another pup in May. The one thing I have learned is, that however experienced you are with dogs you can never fully account for the individuality, the owners and the environment. And it is so easy however experienced you are to make mistakes. Hence it is always good to share views, with others of a like mind LIZ
