PetTalk ATTACK TRAINING JACKIE MORRIS WESTCOT gemdawn2@aol.com
A couple of years ago, whilst at some country show (I can't remember now)we were watching the usual dog displays in the ring, which we were really enjoying--and it stopped the terrible2-3 child whinging, as both boys were transfixed! There was a group of ever so well behaved Rotties doing their stuff, when it was announced they were going to disply, I think they called it attack training, or controlled aggression, or something. Anyway, what they then went on to demonstrate was dogs being told to attack, which they did to the 'target----a team member--- then showing how this 'attack' can be immediately stopped, which I must admit the dogs did beautifully. They also showed work more in keeping with police dogs at crowd control, or bringing down offenders---you know the sort of thing I mean.Well, I must admit I thought it a bit much, and there was lots of dissent from the spectators, who quite honestly didn't seem to want to watch that. I just thought it was part of the training some groups do.
A glance in the Exchange and Mart magazine will show a number of adverts for such personal protection trained dogs, and places where you can get such dogs trained. That to me is very worrying.
