My dog hates cars........ Help!!!!!!! Liz Alexander huge huge@cyberhug.co.uk |

I know the feeling as a child I suffered the same way, and all school trips were out because I felt so ill as soon as I was near a coach or car. I have had one or two bad travellers and i discussed it with my vet who prescribed mild tranquilizers for journeys of over an hour. This helped him gradually to get used to the car. My present Dobe is not great, on long journeys he stands and pants, and each day he hovers when told to get into the car -it usually takes at least three commands before he will get in. I think it also depends on the car, Jake is much worse behind his dog guard at the very back. he improves slightly on the back seat and even more if the seats are down and he can look over my shoulder. As this could be dangerous for driver and dog, we have bought a harness which is anchored and would prevent him from shooting forward in an emergency. I spent a fortune on a secure dog guard, but I have become increasingly worried, particularly on moterways of something crashing into the back, and not being able to reach him. Your puppy is still very young but as a first step I would consult your vet. liz
