I am e-mailing the following information on behalf of Rebecca Woodward who runs the Society for the Promotion of Undocked Dogs. Rebecca has read some of the discussion and would like me to forward this to you all. Please do not reply to me personally but on the chatline and I will pass on your thoughts to her.

The Kennel Club intend on adding the undocked tail description to all the breed standards regardless this year. As the vast majority of docked dogs are show dogs I doubt it very much that people will stop registering their puppies with them unless they intend to set up their own club and registering and organising shows and suchlike.
We do mutilate other domestic animals for our convenience, that doesn't make it right. One of our members refuses to dock because she was brought up on her grandfather's farm and watched these procedures being carried out and also witnessed lambs dropping dead as a result of this.
The general public do not insist on their puppies being docked. I believe that the last poll carried out over 80% of people were against docking. We cannot satisfy the demand for undocked puppies. As far as I am aware an undocked Cocker qualified for Crufts this year and an undocked Weimeraner was placed third in their class at Crufts.
Yes I have seen the procedure done and it was seeing this that made me realise that it shouldn't be done so I am speaking from experience.
