PetTalk hair loss on tail Andrea Slaymaker Slay andreaslaymaker@hotmail.com
Don't worry, it's quite common and does appear to be connected to the hormones in some way - the vet I use just isn't sure exactly how! I've found that in entire hobs and jills the hair tends to drop out in the summer but grow back with the winter coat.

I have had it happen to a neuter, but he sadly had a lot of other health problems and his tail was the least of his worries. The neuter I have at the moment has a lovely thick hairy tail, whilst the hob and jill are looking a bit ratty!!

What do you feed yours? I've found the problem seems to be slightly less common in ferrets that are fed on dried food rather than meat. Perhaps that would be worth a try? A little bit of cod liver oil on the food might help. A friend of mine swears by giving them fresh mackerel once a week; my husband is allergic to fish and refuses to let me have some in the house to try it!! Might be worth a try.

Let me know how you get on - I'll be interested to know what your results are.

Regards

Andrea

(By the way, to the person who put the previous post; typing all in capitals is very bad netiquette - it's the equivalent of shouting.)
