Dear Ken, Without seeing your dog, it is difficult to tell you exactly what the spot is on your dogs tongue. I will say that it is most likely a spot of pigment which many dogs are born with and sometimes people do not notice them. I have had people come in very worried with just this question and on examination it has turned out to be pigmentation that they had never spotted before, much to their amazement. Obviously, you know your own dog, and if you are sure that it is a new spot, then he needs to be checked over by your vet to work out whatit is. It would be very unusual to get a spot developing on a tongue - any sort of cut or burn would be painful and you would have noticed something in his eating habits. They would be unlikely to be black anyway. I have not seen a growth on the middle of the tongue and he is too young for that anyway.Get him checked out and put your mind at ease. Good luck, Maeve Moorcroft (PetPlanet Vet)
