It sounds as though your guinea pigs have got skin mites. These are very common in guinea pigs, very contagious and very itchy. Your care of the guineas sounds fine, however, but you should be careful to ensure that you use a clear source of hay. The treatment of choice for the mites is aninjectable drug (ivermectin) used for worming in some species, but effective to kill many types of parasite. This should be given to each guinea pig four times at weekly intervals. You need to go back to your vet and discuss this one again. Angela Bodey MRCVS (Vet for PetPlanet)
