Docking Liz Alexander huge huge@cyberhug.co.uk |

Lets face it there are hardly any true breeds - all have been created with the dabbling of man who has been flouting nature - it's an extension of evolution! I am quite sure that the majority of the public who choose a breed, want it to look as they have always known it. Equally there may well be a faction supporting non docked tails, and there may well have been an undocked Weimaraner at Crufts, but it has taken twenty four years to get there, and the vast majority of Weimers. are STILL docked. Poor Diana Oldenshaw, who was alone and reviled and had the only undocked Weimaraner in the country, and was snubbed by all gun dog people - so the public baying for undocked puppies have not caused an immense change in nearly quarter of a century! Also as has been said a great many of the pro-dockers are show people, and, as I have said in previous postings, they will be keen to show in Europe and be judged in this country by European judges, and wont stand a chance with undocked tails. Finally I am sure farm docking was hap-hazzard i the past, but even there times and methods have changed, although I fail to see why they bother to dock something they plan to kill within a very short time. personally I am all for some intervention with nature providing it is not to extremes. Certainly the very careful breeding of Dobes has made an aggressive on almost unheard of. I showed my boy at a Dobe society show (hes neutered so can only do fun shows) under a pro Dobe judge and one of the dogs being checked growled and was immediately disqualified. Some years ago when I had a Champion Weimaraner it was quite common for judges to be bitten and not complain. So good can come from some aspects of tampering. LIZ
